Dia Beacon Museum

Sonic Settings

Old media is coming back for its nostalgic value and as a means of detoxifying from information overload. Operated by the Dia Beacon Museum and located in New York's beautiful Hudson Valley, this exhibit offers guests a unique multimedia destination.

Bringing together traditional storytelling experiences within a series of immersive installations ranging from fireside venues to DIY radio drama production, this exhibit seeks to highlight the value of the immortal spoken word in both historical and contemporary contexts.

The logo design is based on older 'suspended diaphragm' type microphones which were common in radio production & combines with the expressive logotype treatment for a spacey vibe that would attract Beaconers and other sensory enthusiasts.

An autumnal color palette was chosen to reflect the New England countryside and the font Mr. Eaves was used for the logotype to give a sense of gentle, well-traveled authority.

The logo's practical inspiration lends it well to material applications as illustrated in this 3D rendering. An Illustrator 3D extrusion combined with Daz Studio iRay materials & raytraced rendering for a handsome & eye-catching white marble primary exhibit signage.

Secondary signages are presented in green sea glass which achieves a unique combination of environmental blending & contrast thanks to its material properties and can serve to mark pathways & other discrete exhibit features.
